Georgia & Chris' Elopement | The Stylist's Guide

Ahhh, Corona. What once was simply a refreshing beer, is now known as a global pandemic, that has shut down the world, cancelled events, and of course, many weddings along with it. Georgia and Chris were one of those couples.

Originally planning to wed at the historic Marybank Farm, nestled in Adelaide’s scenic foothills - a guest list of 92 soon became five, thanks to the newly instated laws around social distancing. Georgia, her Dad, new husband Chris, celebrant and photographer were now the only attendees, after a week and a half deciding whether or not to go ahead with their wedding plans.

“The week and a half leading up from when we officially postponed, to whether we would actually take a leap of faith and get married was one of the most stressful periods I have ever experienced,” Georgia says.

“We were a roller-coaster of emotions, and more often than not, spent the night with an alcoholic beverage…or two. We were full steam ahead until loved ones began declining their wedding invitations, which was when we knew we’d probably need to postpone to a later date.”

Lucky for her, The Stylist’s Guide were right there by Georgia and Chris’ side, ready to answer all of their wedding related queries throughout this period.

“Not only was Alyse [from The Stylist’s Guide] the backbone for me still standing during this period, she was my soul sister in just ‘knowing’ where our heads were at with this entire process,” Georgia says.

When their special day finally rolled around, Georgia and Chris had created something truly awe-inspiring. Perspective.

”With all our dreams ripped from our little fingers, we rolled with anything that flew our way. Couldn’t get my engagement ring rhodium plated, whatever. Forgot my bouquet on the kitchen table and got it dropped off later, cool. Thunderstorm the day before? Bring it bitch. We rolled with the punches and it has really lifted our spirits and shown us what our marriage and wedding was and WILL be about.”

What was the biggest obstacle?

The biggest obstacle was the unknown of what we could and couldn’t based on the decisions made by the government leading up to the wedding ceremony itself. Our plans changed five times in one week and we felt so sure in our decision, but also we were worried it was going to be ripped from us even on the day of our wedding. I found myself cleaning our house windows two hours beforehand and I couldn’t get ‘fully’ excited for our wedding until I put my wedding dress. Up until the moments before we left home, I was in a daze and then completely and utterly loved up and you couldn’t wipe the smile off my face.

What was your favourite part about the wedding you did decide to have?

Georgia’s favourite part was the fact that we were able to frolic around Adelaide City and take some really cool photos – hand in hand. Although we didn’t have our bridal party and loved ones, the fact that we could be together the entire day was something that just made me really put in perspective the day.

Christopher’s favourite part was the unstructured-ness to the day. We didn’t have any plans except a time for our ceremony – and we ended up being late. It also didn’t matter. The fact that we went to different parts of the city with literally no care in the world except “we’re married” was his favourite.
